Industry Experts to Speak at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market Panel Discussion

Technology innovations for outdoor gear continues to change enthusiasts’ overall experience

SALT LAKE CITY – Jan. 14, 2011 —The Women Tech Council (www.womentechcouncil.org) will host an interactive panel discussion, The Technology of Gear at the 2011 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market on Tuesday, January 18, 2011,from 7:00a.m.– 9:00 a.m. at the Marriott Downtown in Salt Lake City. The event is presented by the Association of Corporate Growth – Utah Chapter, the Women Tech Council, and the Outdoor Industry Association. Supporting sponsors are Grant Thornton LLP and Stoel Rives LLP.

“The Technology of Gear panel discussion complements the focus that the Outdoor Industry Association is placing on innovation in 2011, and the panelists provide valuable insight into both the process and the products that result from it,” said LaRae Marsik, vice president of Business Intelligence for the Outdoor Industry Association.

The Technology of Gearfeatures several companies in a panel discussion, as well as showcasing innovative outdoor products from Utah outdoor companies during the networking and breakfast portion of the event. Moderated by Weber State University Vice Provost for Innovation & Economic Development, Curtis Roberts, the evolution and commercialization of outdoor gear technology will be the topic discussed by panel members.

Panelists include:

Nate Alder – inventor, founder, and CEO of Klymit,a Utah-based company that develops and licenses noble-gas-based, variable insulation technologies to companies across a variety of industries.

Ted Palomaki – vice president of product development at Easton Mountain Products, an OEM supplier of carbon fiber and aluminum tent poles and snowshoe frames for the most renowned brands in the outdoor market.

Nora Stowell – vice president/business director of Suunto U.S.A., a leading designer and manufacturer of sports precision instruments for diving, training, mountaineering, hiking, skiing and sailing.
