Local entrepreneur says to retrain from within
PROVO — One of the most serious shortages in high-tech or innovative companies that employers face is finding technologists and programmers.
By 2020, there will be 1.4 million computing jobs and only 400,000 computer science students graduating.
“We need a new talent pool,” Sara Dansie Jones said and then gave solutions.
Jones comes with an impressive list of qualifications. Jones is vice president of Strategic Development for Patent Law Works LLC and a former shareholder and patent attorney. More importantly, she is the co-founder of the Women Tech Council in Utah and CEO/co-founder of KÅçDefy.
KÅçDefy is a company that connects people with opportunities to begin a technology career, according to kodefy.com.
Because the company shows employers other ways to find programming talent, she often will speak to groups such as UVEF and usually monthly interacts with young students to familiarize them with options in technology and change their mind set.
“That is essentially all I am out to do is strike a really great conversation about these issues,” she said.
