Technology & Magic – Spring Networking Event

– Speakers from Disney to keynote technology-focused discussion –

SALT LAKE CITY, 23 April 2012—The Women Tech Council (WTC), (www.womentechcouncil.org) today announced its fifth annual Spring Networking Event, Technology & Magic, will be held Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Zion’s Bank Tower from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

“We are excited to host this event and help cultivate relationships between our members and potential members, while learning from two key expert technologists,” said Cydni Tetro, Women Tech Council Director.

The event will feature a networking lunch followed by an interactive conversation with Disney technology professionals Amber Samdahl and Scott Rench, who will talk about media and entertainment technology trends, including how they use technology, create playtests and make Magic in the parks.

Amber Samdahl is Senior Technical Staff in the Research & Development department at Walt Disney Imagineering. WDI is the design, development and construction arm of the Walt Disney Company that is responsible for creating and building all of the Disney Theme Park and vacation experiences around the world. At R&D, Amber works to create tools, technologies and techniques to tell new stories and create innovative entertainment experiences. Her primary interest remains in developing interactive experiences with a focus in games, social media and play.

In his over 20 years of technology management experience at Walt Disney Parks & Resorts (WDP&R), Scott Rench has helped launch new parks, resorts and cruise ships from a technology perspective. He currently leads the WDP&R New Technology Group (NTG), which is responsible for developing innovative new concepts to improve the guest or cast experience. NTG drives research and develops pilots for a broad spectrum of technology initiatives including mobile computing, digital signage, IPTV, new media, social networking, applications of RFID, multi-touch interfaces, 3D capture & display, and large-scale interactive experiences. The team is also pivotal in reviewing, testing and distributing latest technology to top executives for their daily use and creating policy on their use within The Walt Disney Company.
